An acute infectious disease of humans and domestic animals, especially cattle and sheep, caused by a mosquito-borne virus and characterized in humans by fever and sometimes ocular disease, hemorrhagic symptoms, or encephalitis, and in animals by fever, abortion, and death of newborns.
