Some compound words (like bus rapid transit, dog whistle, or identity theft) don’t appear on the drop-down list when you type them in the search bar. For best results with compound words, place a quotation mark before the compound word in the search window.

n. pl. Paharior Pa·ha·ris

1. A member of any of various, mostly Hindu peoples of Nepal and the Himalayan foothills of India.

2. The group of Indo-Aryan languages spoken by these peoples, including Nepali.

[Hindi Pahāṛī, of the mountains, Pahari, from pahāṛ, mountain, from Middle Indic *pāhāḍa, probably akin to Prakrit pāṣāṇa, pāhāṇa, a rock, a stone, from Sanskrit pāṣāṇaḥ, from earlier *parṣāṇa-; akin to Kati (Nuristani language of Afghanistan and Pakistan) parši, mountain, mountain pass, and Pashto parṣa, rock.]
