A luminous, white, diffuse spot occasionally seen in the sky opposite the sun on the parhelic circle.
[Greek anthēlion, from neuter of anthēlios, opposite the sun : anti-, anti- + hēlios, sun; see sāwel- in the Appendix of Indo-European roots.]
